About the Friends

The Friends of the Cherry Valley Public Library District have been supporting the library even before its beginning as a department of the village in a downtown storefront in 1978. Subsequently, the Friends were instrumental in advocating for an expanded facility, the present library building you enjoy constructed in 1989. These days, the Friends exist as an auxiliary of the library. Their biggest fundraisers are book sales; the semi-annual events in fall and spring, the Children & Teens’ book sale in the summer, and the ongoing foyer book sales during regular library hours. From the proceeds earned throughout the year, the Friends generously pledge money to the library for additional books, materials, equipment, furnishings, and programs beyond that which is provided by tax dollars.
